Louise Dempsey
Founder/Service Director/Lead Integrative Psychotherapist/Counsellor/Coach

I’m the founder and Service Director at YI. It makes me smile to say that, because for years it was just me and my wee corsa, doing what we could to help our families and young people from the local community. ...more

My first degree is in Social Sciences and I’ve lectured in Psychology and Sociology.  I returned to education and obtained a Post Grad from Glasgow University in Addictions and Treatment Modalities and then spent a number of years working in a Tier 4 Residential Rehab.  As well as this, I’ve consulted and delivered training and therapeutic one to one’s for private organisations.  I went on to obtain my Counselling Skills and Diploma in Clinical Integrative Psychotherapy and I currently spend my days at YI.  There you’ll find me in practice working with families and young people, and directing and growing the service.

I’m committed to providing accessible emotional wellbeing services for those of us who don’t have the means to pay privately, and I’ll continue to strive towards replicating what we do so very well in other localities.

Youth Interventions Gillian Manuel

Gillian Manuel Team Leader
Integrative Psychotherapist/Recovery Counsellor

Hello, I am Gillian Manuel and I am a Recovery Practitioner with Youth interventions. I have a passion and excitement for what the service offers. Along with four years of professional experience in working within the field of recovery, I also bring personal experience of my own journey to recovery. I have a passion for working with people as I feel everyone deserves the right to be supported to reach their full potential in order to live their best life...more

I have a belief that everyone is unique and is required to be supported in a way that best meets their needs fully including them as they are the expert in their own lives. I feel that youth interventions use an approach that allows for young people to be heard and supported with a variety of issues in a safe inclusive environment, whilst removing the stigma attached to alcohol and drug misuse. After years of experience in various jobs roles the issues relating to substance misuse were highlighted this further fueled my passion to want to work within a role where I could make a difference. I have both personal and professional experience which means journey I am armed with a fountain of knowledge and understanding to educate and support the people who come through the doors of youth interventions. I have a good sense of humour and feel even during the most difficult times laughter has a place in reminding us that better times are ahead. I look forward to welcoming you and working together to help you achieve what you may not even realise is possible yet.

Together, let’s create you a life that you don’t want to escape from.

Larah McAllister
Youth Team Leader

Hey there, I’m Larah , mum of three with a real passion for supporting young people. I’m really fun, supportive and have a good ear for listening ! Since leaving school I’ve worked with young people from all ages but found a real love for working with teenagers during my time working in a support base at a local high school...more

Since joining YI at the beginning of 2022 I’ve been promoted to Youth Team leader and I couldn’t be prouder of myself. My role at YI involves me creating a safe , fun space for our young people to come and be themselves. To give them the opportunity to feel cared for, nurtured and needed. Our youth team works tirelessly to involve our young people in many activities within our community and to take part in events in Renfrewshire and surrounding areas.

I’ve also had the pleasure of working alongside our therapists Gillian & Lindsay to create workshops on current life topics which we deliver as a team to our local secondary schools. Being part of this is fantastic, giving us the opportunity to help & support as many young people as possible and get the YI name out there.

How Can We Help

Things were probably at their worse when I couldn’t leave the house.  I’d been battered a couple of times by some girls and I was scared all of the time.

When my mum took me along to meet the Y.I. Team, I only went cause I knew how worried she was.  But I didn’t think it would help me. I’d been to see a lot of people about my mental health and who I was as a person, and no-one listened or understood.  It didn’t feel that way at Youth Interventions.  I can’t say exactly why, but I just felt ….valued.  It never felt like I was being told what I should think or feel and it always felt that the things we did were partly my idea!  They were dead good at signposting me to other organisations as well.  It was a really helpful time of my life, and I’m glad that I met them.
