Youth Interventions Team
Louise Dempsey Founder - Service Director
My first degree is in Social Sciences and I’ve lectured in Psychology and Sociology. I returned to education and obtained a Post Grad from Glasgow University in Addictions and Treatment Modalities and then spent a number of years working in a Tier 4 Residential Rehab. As well as this, I’ve consulted and delivered training and therapeutic one to one’s for private organisations. I went on to obtain my Counselling Skills and Diploma in Clinical Integrative Psychotherapy and I currently spend my days at YI. There you’ll find me in practice working with families and young people, and directing and growing the service.
I’m committed to providing accessible emotional wellbeing services for those of us who don’t have the means to pay privately, and I’ll continue to strive towards replicating what we do so very well in other localities.

I love my job as it gives me a chance to provide a safe place for these individuals to explore what is going on for them and where they want to go in their lives.
I have a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with a focus on the Person centred relational model. I also have a background in psychology and creative practices such as the benefits of nature, fine art, tattooing and mindfulness.
Sometimes our young people can feel 'stuck' and unsure of their purpose and direction in life. This has an impact their mental health.
I listen to the young person and work with their own individual needs, I draw on my own experiences and training, help set and maintain goals that are achievable and I assist them to learn new coping strategies.
It is important for me that I make the young person feel comfortable to explore difficult areas of their life from their past, present and future, find more clarity in their decision making, learn to trust themselves and feel empowered.

I have a belief that everyone is unique and is required to be supported in a way that best meets their needs fully including them as they are the expert in their own lives. I feel that youth interventions use an approach that allows for young people to be heard and supported with a variety of issues in a safe inclusive environment, whilst removing the stigma attached to alcohol and drug misuse. After years of experience in various jobs roles the issues relating to substance misuse were highlighted this further fueled my passion to want to work within a role where I could make a difference. I have both personal and professional experience which means journey I am armed with a fountain of knowledge and understanding to educate and support the people who come through the doors of youth interventions. I have a good sense of humour and feel even during the most difficult times laughter has a place in reminding us that better times are ahead. I look forward to welcoming you and working together to help you achieve what you may not even realise is possible yet.
Together, let’s create you a life that you don’t want to escape from.

“I’m excited and happy every time I come to work at Youth Interventions. I know that I’m part of a team that supports and helps young people to become more confident. We talk about their lives a lot, and it’s so rewarding to be able to contribute to their lives and to help them to make positive decisions that affect their here and now and their future”.
